If you are playing online blackjack you’ll need to understand some simple terms to get playing.
Bust – if the value of a player’s hand or the dealers goes over 21, then they go bust and lose that card hand.
Double Down – after you’ve seen the first two cards that you’ve been dealt with and you think they look like a winning hand, you have the option of taking a second bet.
Hard hand – when the hand doesn’t contain an Ace or if it does, the Ace is valued at 1 and not 11.
Hit – at a live casino, if you want to be dealt with another card you will use the hit button.
Insurance – this is a side bet you can make if the dealer has an ace face up you can bet on if he will have ‘blackjack’. Most experienced blackjack players avoid this bet as it is loaded in the houses favour.
Natural – this is another term for blackjack and the winning hand of a 10 and an Ace.
Push – if the live dealer and the player end up with cards of the same value, then this is known as a ‘push’ and neither party wins or loses.
Shoe – if playing real or online blackjack, this is where the deck of cards is kept.
Soft Hand – if the player has a hand with an ace that is valued 11.
Split – this occurs when a player has two cards with the same value if they so choose they can split them into two hands.
Stand – a player at a live casino will choose to stand if they don’t require any more cards.
