Video poker is a simple game to play once you understand the rules and is much easier to play than regular poker as it’s just the player against the dealer. There are a number of variations of the game but we will share the Jacks or Better rules here as it is the most popular version of the game.
Once you have found the video poker game of your choice in the lobby of the internet casino you can play a free game or choose to play for real money.
You place your bet and then are dealt five cards face up, you then have a choice of which cards you wish to hold and which you want to discard.
On the interface of the video poker game, you will click the hold button for all the cards you decide to keep, the cards that you don’t want will be replaced when you click draw or deal with new cards. The aim will be to improve your hand with these new cards. You now have your final hand of five cards and if you have won you will be paid out accordingly.
These are the card hands that you can win on. The highest payout being Royal Flush the lowest Jacks or Better.
Royal Flush – 10, Jack, Queen, King all from the same suit, this is the best possible card hand you can hope to get
Straight Flush: five cards from the same suit in numerical order for instance 5,6,7,8,9 of Hearts.
Four of a Kind – a hand consisting of four cards that are of the same value an example would be 7 of Hearts, 7 of Diamonds, 7 of Clubs, 7 of Spades
Full House – a card hand consisting of three of a kind and a pair, an example of this hand would be 5 of Hearts, 5 of Clubs, 5 of Diamonds and 2 of Diamonds and 2 of Spades.
Flush – this is five cards from the same suit but they don’t have to run consecutively such as 3,5,6,10, King of Spades.
Straight – any five cards running consecutively but from mixed suits, an example of this could be 4 of Clubs, 5 of Hearts, 6 of Spades, 7 of Clubs, 8 of Diamonds.
Three of a Kind – three cards that share the same value, so King of Hearts, Spades, and Diamonds.
Two Pair – all the twos! two cards from two sets that have the same value, like 4 of Diamonds and Hearts and 7 of Diamonds and Spades.
Jack or Better – the lowest payout but still a win and just like it says a pair that are Jacks or higher, so a pair of Jacks, a pair of Queens or a Pair of Kings.
The main strategy for this game is knowing what to hold and what to discard when you are dealt your hand to make up the winning combinations above.
